Why isn't my SD card slot working on my windows vista home premium?

well, i have a kodak easyshare z1485 IS. also,when i put my sd card the little green light is on but nothing is happening. it is a KODAK high speed SD/hc 16gb,60x speed card. i do not want to spend any sort of money for a card reader.
