How do I design a professional looking flyer, poster??

Can you help me, I am wanting to design a professional looking poster and then maybe a brochure but do not know what software to use, I must admit I'm not so clued up on computers but would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction, the easier the better but also has to look good, please help
